Art As Activism

Ever since I came to America, my biggest culture shock is how I continously learn something new about racism. In 2020, I watched the 13th Documentary directed by Ava Duvernay, where it explores the intersection of race, justice, and mass incarceration in the United States. During George Floyd protests in 2020, I found myself walking through the streets of Baltimore with Duane G. Davis. I was in a jumpsuit and he was in a judge’s robe. A depiction of the historical context of racial inequality from the end of slavery through Jim Crow laws, the Civil Rights Movement, and the War on Drugs, highlighting how policies and practices have targeted Black communities.
